Federico Ortino holds a law degree from the University of Florence,
School of Law (1996, magna cum laude), a master of laws from Georgetown
University Law Center (1997, with distinction) and a doctorate from the
European University Institute, Florence (2003). He is a lecturer in
International Trade Law at the University of Trento, School of Law and in
European Union Law at the University of Siena, School of Literature and
Philosophy. He has worked as legal consultant for several law firms in
Florence, London and Brussels as well as for the United Nations Conference on
Trade and Development in Geneva. Dr Ortino' research interests lie primarily in
International Economic Law, in particular EC and WTO law, with additional
interests in international commercial law and litigation. Presently, he is
working on the National Treatment and Proportionality principles as the basic
norms in the regulation of the global market place.
