The Distinguished Fellow Lecture Series is a new initiative of the Hauser Global Law School Program at New York University School of Law. Its goal is to provide NYU faculty, students, visiting researchers, scholars and fellows, with a forum within which to exchange ideas and experiences with eminent jurists from foreign jurisdictions.

Each year the Global program brings up to 15 foreign scholars to NYU Law School as members of our Global Law Faculty. They teach courses that cover a wide range of subjects and are open to all NYU students. The Global faculty of 2002/2003 included Mohammed Arkoun, John Baker, Radhika Coomaraswamy, Moshe Halbertal, Martti Koskenniemi, and Dieter Grimm who was the first speaker involved in the Series. During the academic year 2003-2004, our Global Law Faculty in residence will include Eyal Benvenisti, Werner Ebke, Richard Goldstone, Ratna Kapur, Ziba Mir-Hosseini, and Andras Sajo.

The Global program also features short visits by Distinguished Global Fellows. These Fellows are highly recognized jurists whose duties in their home countries prevent them from taking full residence here at NYU. Despite this restriction, we are lucky enough to welcome them to participate in selected classes during their short stay at NYU and to give public talks for faculty and students. Distinguished Global Fellows in the recent past have included Giuliano Amato, Robert Badinter, Vojtch Cepl, Arthur Chaskalson, Richard Goldstone, Dieter Grimm, and Lord Slynn of Hadley. Please view the full list of Distinguished Global Fellows.

It is on these initiatives that we strive to build. We will invite certain key jurists to participate in the Distinguished Fellow Lecture Series during the fall and spring semesters in order to profit from their presence, experience and teaching. The lecture itself is conducted as an informal conversation with Professor Joseph Weiler, Chair and Faculty Director of the Hauser Global Law School Program who also encourages questions and discussion with audience members.
